Carlsberg Chocolate Bar

Back in 2016, drinkers in Shoreditch, London encountered what has to be the most unusual (and certainly sustainable) bar. Located at Trumans Brewery, it was a life size pop up bar made entirely of Chocolate for Carlsberg Brewery. And it wasn’t just the bar itself that was made of chocolate. It even had edible chocolate beer mats, ornate chocolate picture frames and a chocolate dartboard! Drinkers could enjoy a half pint of Carlsberg in special chocolate Carlsberg glasses.

It was quite simply, the perfect way to attract publicity and consumer attention. Who could resist free beer and chocolate? It encouraged brand loyalty and created valuable long term publicity (after all people still talk about it and publish pictures today).

Cadbury’s Creme Eggs – How do you NOT eat yours?

Small and delicious, these creme eggs are eaten in vast quantities between Christmas and Easter. Their arrival in store has become a UK tradition. By linking back to an iconic earlier campaign ‘How do you eat yours?’, this campaign brought a touch of nostalgia and made people think. To complete the offer, there was a nationwide giveaway which definitely captured public imagination.

A limited edition of 146 creme eggs made from high white chocolate, half milk chocolate were sent into shops nationwide. They might be found anywhere, hidden in the same wrappers as ordinary creme eggs. The lucky finders could win up to £10,000 – providing they could resist eating it! Comedian Matt Lucas led a major advertising campaign encouraging winners not to eat them, while other ads showed hungry husbands wanting to eat them but desperate spouses trying to prevent them.

Durex Easter X

Head over to New Zealand for one of the most unusual Easter promotional campaigns linking Durex condoms with Easter! The company launched a special Limited Edition Durex Easter X. Available only via the company’s social media channels, the Easter X was an ‘adult sized’ chocolate Easter Egg containing ‘very adult toys’. Ads were somewhat risqué, innuendo laden with words such as ‘an orgasm wrapped in chocolate’. Within a short time of being launched, social media engagement jumped from 1% to over 10%. Durex became the most socially engaged brand in the country by creating a marketing link where to most people none existed. The message for marketeers is simple – be creative!

Marmite Easter Egg

Marmite is one of those products that you either love or hate – and is certainly not something that most people would associate with Easter. Marketeers created the Yeaster Egg accompanied with the words Love it/hate it – you just have to try it!

The play on words and the unusual nature of the product were guaranteed to attract attention, and make people try it out of curiosity.
