Back in 2016, drinkers in Shoreditch, London encountered what has to be the most unusual (and certainly sustainable) bar. Located at Trumans Brewery, it was a life size pop up bar made entirely of Chocolate for Carlsberg Brewery. And it wasn’t just the bar itself that was made of chocolate. It even had edible chocolate beer mats, ornate chocolate picture frames and a chocolate dartboard! Drinkers could enjoy a half pint of Carlsberg in special chocolate Carlsberg glasses.

It was quite simply, the perfect way to attract publicity and consumer attention. Who could resist free beer and chocolate? It encouraged brand loyalty and created valuable long term publicity (after all people still talk about it and publish pictures today).

Cadbury’s Creme Eggs – How do you NOT eat yours?

Durex Easter X

Head over to New Zealand for one of the most unusual Easter promotional campaigns linking Durex condoms with Easter! The company launched a special Limited Edition Durex Easter X. Available only via the company’s social media channels, the Easter X was an ‘adult sized’ chocolate Easter Egg containing ‘very adult toys’. Ads were somewhat risqué, innuendo laden with words such as ‘an orgasm wrapped in chocolate’. Within a short time of being launched, social media engagement jumped from 1% to over 10%. Durex became the most socially engaged brand in the country by creating a marketing link where to most people none existed. The message for marketeers is simple – be creative!

Marmite is one of those products that you either love or hate – and is certainly not something that most people would associate with Easter. Marketeers created the Yeaster Egg accompanied with the words Love it/hate it – you just have to try it!

The play on words and the unusual nature of the product were guaranteed to attract attention, and make people try it out of curiosity.

With so much uncertainty since March and the arrival of COVID-19 it is safe to say that exhibition life is very different to what we are used to.  But good news is around the corner.  We have seen the showpiece NHS Nightingale hospital, which was based at London Excel close, which is positive and most welcome news, and which has led us to hope that plans are in place to reopen London Excel later this year.

Their calendar for the remainder of this year has been updated, with some exhibitions which were due to take place earlier this year rescheduled.  It might be wise prior to travelling to London Excel to check with the event organiser to confirm the event is taking place and for any further information you may require.

The ExCeL London is a waterside event venue that attracts event organisers from across all sectors and industries. The busy festive season a distant memory.  So what events and shows does this major venue have in store during the first month of the New Year?

100% Optical, 12 – 14 January 2019

The first of two events at this amazing venue, the 100% Optical show.  It brings together over 8,000 professionals from the world of optical world. Technicians, opticians and innovation collide in a show that brings the latest products, technologies and solutions to an international stage.

This is the sixth year this show is being hosted at Excel.  Promosing big brand names in the world of eyewear, equipment, lenses and business services. It also features audiology, a growing trend in services being offered by opticians across the UK.

Doors open at 10am on Saturday 12 January with a late night closing of 9pm. The event closes at 6pm on Sunday with the event drawing to a close at 5pm on Monday.

Oracle OpenWorld Europe: London, 16 – 17 January 2019

We all know how much our world is changing, fuelled by many driving factors and forces but there is no denying the impact digital technology has had on every aspect of our lives.
